Olympic committee comes under fire

HONG KONG - Cable broadcaster i-Cable has announced it is open to a partnership deal with free-to-air networks TVB and ATV, after a furore over the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision to award i-Cable the rights to the 2010 and 2012 winter and summer Olympic Games in Vancouver and London respectively.

TVB and ATV combined for a rare joint statement criticising the IOC decision following yesterday’s announcement, claiming the decision contravened the IOC’s mission of broadcasting the Games to as many people as possible.

“It is totally against the IOC’s charter and spirit, so we are furious,” said Ip Ka Poi, ATV vice-president, public relations and promotions.
