The Singaporean, currently managing director of Ogilvy & Mather Advertising Indonesia, will replace former country advisor Eleanor Modesto, who retired in March.
According to sources, Lowe has been looking for an Asian expatriate with local experience to fill the role and Tan, who has spent three-and-a-half years in Indonesia, matched the criteria.
During his stint at O&M, Tan oversaw a period of considerable new business success picking up Japanese drink giant Pocari, Bank Indonesia International and Tango biscuits.
