OgilvyOne eyes Macau after Venetian win

MACAU - OgilvyOne is looking to launch a Macau operation following Venetian Macao's decision to award the business for its casino and resort to the agency, with a separate review process seeing the operator switch its retail media planning and buying account from ZenithOptimedia to OMD.

OgilvyOne, which also works with a number of clients in Macau, including the recently launched Viva Macau airline, is currently evaluating its options, and a decision is expected in the next few months. If the move does take place, it’s believed OgilvyOne would be the first 4As agency to open an office in Macau.

“Building upon OgilvyOne’s client relationships with Viva Macau, and the recent win of the Venetian Macao, the Group is exploring options to establish a more permanent presense or office in the Macau SAR,” said Sean Rach, OgilvyOne Hong Kong managing director.

Additionally, Rach said the agency would be looking to hire extra headcount as a result of the new business, initially to be based in the Hong Kong office, although final numbers had yet to be determined.

OgilvyOne has been tasked with developing the communications strategy for the Venetian’s launch. It was recently announced the launch had been moved forward to a likely date in August.

Although remaining tight-lipped on the strategy, Rach said it would cover a wide range of consumer segments, as the facility sought to promote its casino, restaurant, entertainment and retail offerings.

Meanwhile, OMD’s recent win of the Grand Canal Shoppes retail venture strengthens its hold on the business, after it picked up the media planning and buying brief for Venetian’s casino and resort offerings last year.
