Ogilvy woos Egusa amid Japan cuts

TOKYO - Ogilvy & Mather Japan has drafted in 24-year Dentsu veteran Koji Egusa to head client servicing, as the agency grapples with a slowdown in multinational client activity in the market.

Egusa, who takes on the role of executive client services director, filled key account roles at Dentsu, including working on Suntory and NTT.

He arrives as Ogilvy confirms that a downturn in MNC client activity has forced the agency to let go of staff. Ogilvy Japan group chairman John Goodman declined to reveal specific numbers, but confirmed that the agency’s model is shifting.

“In general, MNC clients are now looking at centralised adaptation,” said Goodman. “So we are moving out of adaptation to do more local creative work.”

Goodman pointed to car dealer Gulliver and Manpower as examples of new local business at the operation.
