Ogilvy to bolster its Japanese presence

TOKYO - Ogilvy is to reinforce its presence in Japan with the appointment of Paul Matheson (pictured) as executive planning director for the market.

The role will see Matheson relocate to Tokyo while retaining his current position as regional head of planning for Asia-Pacific.

Paul Heath, president of Ogilvy & Mather Advertising Asia-Pacific, said that the move reflected an increasing focus on the Japanese market following the account win of Coca-Cola’s Sokenbicha,  the nation’s leading tea brand. It picked up the account from Hakuhodo in September.

Heath added that Matheson, who joined Ogilvy from BBH New York four years ago, had played an instrumental role in winning the business, having led the planning process for the pitch.

“We see much more potential to grow in Japan,” he said.
