He takes over in early April, filling a role held by Rosanna Yu, who left the agency at the end of last year. Wong will work with executive creative director and chairman Geoff Naus to develop a stronger creative offering in Hong Kong. Wong will also help McCann's Greater China CEO, T. H. Peng, in strategy development. Wong has been with O&M for three years and prior to that was with J. Walter Thompson for 10 years, handling local telecom, bank and beer accounts as well as international brands.
"I believe Wong can provide value added service to advertisers and guide internal account management to help clients build brand awareness."
Wong said the new post would provide him an opportunity to run a whole agency and a Greater China role.
Meanwhile, O&M said it would name Wong's replacement this week.
