Ogilvy creative duo replace Wong

Ogilvy & Mather has ramped up its Hong Kong operation more than nine months after ECD Spencer Wong's departure, promoting Annie Wong and Simon Handford to the post of ECDs.

Annie Wong recently rejoined the agency after an 18-month stint with JWT, and during her 18-year career has picked up awards at Cannes, Clio, D&AD and The One Show. Handford, a copywriter and art director, has produced award-winning work for the likes of American Express, The Economist and IBM. The two have stepped into the role vacated by S Wong, who was recently named ECD at McCann Erickson Guangming, and EVP McCann China, replacing Geoff Naus, who is returning to the US.

In addition to the two promotions, Chong Kin has been appointed CD, with Jenkin Ho and Jaslin Goh named group account director and senior strategic planner respectively. Royce Yuen, Ogilvy's group MD, South China, said the appointments would improve the agency's creative output.

"(They will) guide and motivate the creative team to produce second-to-none (work)," said Yuen. "Following the departure of Spencer, we have been looking for the right candidates to head up our creative department. We're confident that the duo will provide great creative leadership for the agency."

Annie Wong added: "(Our role) is to win new business, win awards, and build the best creative department in Hong Kong and beyond. (Hong Kong) is losing ground to other Asian countries and mainland China."
