Ogilvy creates new Disney China team

Ogilvy & Mather is to set up a Hong Kong Disneyland account team in Shanghai to help the theme park refresh its marketing messages to the mainland market. The new team is being put together in the wake of a creative review from Disneyland, which Ogilvy successfully defended.

Hong Kong Disneyland is also making changes to make the park more accessible for mainland visitors, such as adding more explanations about the main Disney characters, as part of a renewed focus on the mainland market.

Although Ogilvy was still finalising contractual details at presstime, the plan was to have five key people stationed in Shanghai working on the account, in addition to the main team in Hong Kong.

"We'll have to get that story out there and tell people what it is they can expect when they visit Hong Kong Disneyland," said Ogilvy & Mather's Shanghai and Southern China's chairman and CEO, Joseph Wang.
