NWA picks Edelman as Asia-Pacific AOR

ASIA-PACIFIC - Northwest Airlines (NWA) has appointed Edelman as its first regional PR agency of record for Asia Pacific after a three-way pitch believed to have included Fleishman Hillard and Burson Marsteller.

Prior to calling the pitch, NWA worked with an assortment of agencies in different markets across the region including Fleishman Hillard in mainland China and Edelman in Korea.

The consolidation move is reportedly part of an effort by the US airline to strengthen and add discipline to its communications in Asia Pacific and revitalise its image, with particular focus on Japan, where it is the largest foreign carrier, and China, where it is a relatively new player.

Meanwhile, Edelman has also launched Edelman Digital, and has named John Kerr (pictured) as its Asia-Pacific director.

Building on client relationships formed in the last two years, the digital unit will focus on the likes of GlaxoSmithKline, Starhub, Kia Motors and Microsoft Xbox.

Kerr will report to Edelman’s Asia-Pacific president, Alan VanderMolen.
