Challenges
Since the average age of the group was 25 years old, the Phone House wanted to find a destination and venue that would appeal to a young and more adventurous market, and that offered a range of outdoor activities. The organiser also wanted there to be a focus on teambuilding. Therefore, the venue needed to have a capacity which allowed the group leaders to keep the whole team together at all times.
Execution
The Sebel Reef House and Spa was chosen as the venue for the incentive group’s Australian experience. The boutique resort appealed to the group because of its location opposite Palm Cove’s tropical, white sandy beach – where most of the teambuilding activities would take place.
The organisers needed to choose activities that illustrated the Australian culture and environment, while also appealing to the group as a whole. The group spent one day lazing in the sun on the beach in Palm Cove. They also spent an afternoon on a cruise exploring the Great Barrier Reef.
The incentive group was originally booked to go white-water rafting on the Barron River. This unfortunately had to be cancelled due to lack of water in the river. However, this activity was substituted with quad biking, which proved to be a hit. Delegates were also taught how to play the didgeridoo by an Aboriginal expert.
Verdict
Annette Gaborit, project manager at JCM Destination Australia & New Zealand, says the feedback from the client was good: “They thought the trip was great. The destination fulfiled their expectations and appealed to the age of the group.”
North Queensland hosts incentive
Orange and Motorola sponsored an Australian-based incentive event for the Phone House, one of the largest mobile phone retailers in France. The incentive was to reward the top performers in each retail outlet over a three-month period. The group's itinerary would include arriving in Sydney and then travelling to Palm Cove in North Queensland.
