Nokia to sponsor Discovery's new China film series

Nokia has sealed a "multi-million dollar" advertising sales partnership with Discovery Networks Asia, as it attempts to promote mobile photography and filmmaking through the use of its camera-phones.

Accordingly the agreement will begin with Nokia's sponsorship of the premiere of First Time Filmmakers: China 21, which will feature six documentaries from young directors in China.

A campaign will also kick off later this year, showcasing Nokia's 3G imaging devices, with advertising set to roll out across Discovery's Southeast Asia, Australia/New Zealand and India feeds.

"Not only is Discovery the home of documentary filmmaking, which is about capturing true-to-life stories, it also has the ability to offer advertisers like Nokia creative advertising solutions," said Nokia Asia-Pacific director of mobile phones marketing Pasi Jarvenpaa.

"By collaborating with Discovery, Nokia hopes to bring mobile photography and filmmaking in the Asia-Pacific region to a whole new level by making them easy and accessible to all consumers. Not only will the initiative help develop the amateur filmmaking industry in the region, it will also revolutionise filmmaking by giving consumers the ability to create their own personal documentaries with their Nokia phones."
