Nitro plans expansion into Japan

TOKYO - Nitro is set to launch an operation in Japan early in the new year via an equity stake in an undisclosed agency, sources have revealed.

Nitro currently has offices in New York, London, Melbourne and Shanghai.

The agency’s initial clients are expected to be Volvo and an as yet unnamed global confectionary brand. Nitro’s global clients also include Mars and Nestle.

Jonny Shaw of Naked Communications in Japan commented that Nitro’s presence would help raise the quality of output from international agencies in Japan by injecting an element of competition to the marketplace.

According to Shaw, the major difficulty for international agencies in Japan lies in attracting talented people. Critical to Nitro’s success will be a strong team with a sound understanding of the Japanese market, he said.
Nitro’s chairman and global chief executive Chris Clarke declined to comment.
