Newsweek tasks Murphy with new publishing remit

Newsweek International has promoted Rhona Murphy to the newly-created role of publisher. The appointment is part of a reorganisation which saw the creation of two new publisher posts - international and US - reporting to worldwide publisher Greg Osberg.

Murphy, formerly associate publisher and director of international sales since November 2002, will be based in New York. She joined the publication from Dow Jones, where she was MD for North America, and responsible for sales from the US into the international editions of the Wall Street Journal.

"The main challenge will be addressing what clients want, which are global deals and ideas. This will make building of our integration offer -- print, online, events and through-the-line -- that much more important," said Murphy. She said her role would include expanding News-week's local-language editions in Asia,as the title seeks to strengthen its appeal among non-English language readers.
