New VW Olympics campaign targets bloggers

SHANGHAI - FAW-Volkswagen is targeting China's 100m-strong blog community with an online viral campaign around its sponsorship of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Created by Tribal DDB Shanghai, the ‘Honk for China’ viral is designed to give bloggers who write about the Torch Relay a means of showing their support for the Games. Netizens who write about the relay coming through their town can link their posts with the FAW-VW’s official torch map website. They then receive a ‘honking badge’ that they can attach to their blogs.

The badge allows the blogger to compose a tune; visitors to the blog can ‘honk’ the horn to play it. Bloggers who attract the most ‘honks’ win prizes including trips to Beijing to see the opening and closing ceremonies and a one-year car lease.

A banner ad promoting the campaign will appear on Sina’s blog home page, and this banner will show the highest-ranked blogger

FAW-VW is the automotive partner of the Beijing Games and car supplier of the 2008 Olympic Torch relay.
