New Google logo for Malaysia's Independence Day

KUALA LUMPUR – Google is celebrating Malaysia's 54th Independence Day with a new 'Google doodle' on its Malaysia page (Google.com.my) today.

The 'Google Doodle' celebrating Malaysia's Independence Day

The regular logo has been replaced with an image that includes the Malaysian flag and a ketupat.

Ketupat, also known as 'packed rice', is made from rice that has been wrapped in a woven palm leaf pouch and boiled. Google has previously had a dedicated 'doodle' logo to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Malaysia's independence in 2007.

Malaysians are celebrating a feast of holidays this week, with Independence Day today coinciding with Hari Raya Aidilfitri – a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, on 30 and 31 August.

A number of brands and organisations have been getting in to the spirit with campaigns and contests tied specifically to the double festival.
