NBC Universal acquires Sparrowhawk

SINGAPORE - NBC Universal has acquired Sparrowhawk Holdings, the owner of Hallmark Channels, as it aggressively tries push its international division.

The acquisition, estimated at US$350 million in various reports, will be merged into NBC Universal’s Global Networks division and managed by incoming president of Global Networks & Digital Initiatives, Roma Khanna, based in London.  

The owners of Sparrowhawk, led by Providence Equity Partners and 3i, will sell to NBC Universal all of the company's shares and international versions of the Hallmark Channel, Movies 24, Diva TV and Sparrowhawk's stake in the KidsCo joint venture.

NBC Universal consists of several ‘male-skewed’ programmes such as the Sci-Fi Channel, 13th Street and Crime & Investigation Channel.
