The Music Copyright Society of China (MCSC) , the China Audio-Video Copyright Association (CAVCA) and the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) have teamed up with both international and Chinese record companies which represent around 80 per cent of the Chinese music market and the lion’s share of international mainstream music, in signing a statement against Baidu.
The search engine’s capacity for searching MP3 files has been cited as one of the main reasons why Baidu trumps Google on the mainland. The joint action follows a period that has seen record companies attempting to sue the search engine for copyright infringements with limited results.
