Mumbai events show resilience after blast

MUMBAI Despite the tragic loss of life, the recent train bombings in India's commercial centre of Mumbai appear to have had a minimal effect on corporate events.

"International travellers have a more mature perspective of events, especially of the kind of terror attack faced by Mumbai's suburban rail network," said Girish Rao, vicepresident corporate communications and business development, The Leela Palaces and Resorts, "The travel trade in Mumbai was obviously impacted but the effect was muted. "Leela Mumbai faced very few cancellations and postponement of travel plans [less than two per cent] and we have not heard of any major events being cancelled," Rao said. Though the capital city of New Delhi was also put under alert, most international guests did not alter their itineraries. "As far as we are concerned the blast has had no direct effect. No cancellations, no anxious questions or changes in programme requests; sympathy mails poured in and that was that," said Sujit Banerjee of Yatrik.com, a destination management company. He also said that international business travellers were becoming more determined not to let terror attacks affect their programmes.
