Mukerjea, Nair quit top Star India roles

MUMBAI Samir Nair, CEO, Star Entertainment India and Peter Mukerjea, CEO, Star Group India, have both resigned from their positions, ending weeks of speculation.

Mukerjea leaves at the end of this month, while Nair will continue until March. Their departures follow Michelle Guthrie's exit as CEO of Star TV Hong Kong. Paul Aiello, Guthrie's replacement, will now act as CEO of Star India.

Sources indicate that Nair is likely to join an entertainment channel to be launched by Indian news broadcaster NDTV. Meanwhile, Mukerjea is tipped to go into partnership with Reliance Industries' Mukesh Ambani.

Both Nair and Mukerjea have been critical in elevating Star India with programming like Kaun Banega Crorepati, the Indian version of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire.
