MS&L hires Hirata as Japan healthcare lead

TOKYO - Public relations consultancy MS&L has appointed Ken Hirata (pictured) as director of its healthcare practice in Japan.

Formerly a senior healthcare consultant at Burson-Marsteller Tokyo, Hirata will oversee the agency’s AstraZeneca, AMD Alliance International and Sanofi Aventis accounts.

Hirata will also be responsible for raising the level of staff expertise within the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors through the development of recruiting and training programmes.

A 20-year industry veteran, Hirata has also worked in corporate affairs management at Eli Lilly Japan, where he was involved in the launch of various therapeutic products for areas such as endocrinology, oncology, osteoporosis and psychiatry. Prior to that, he was responsible for crisis management, product marketing support and corporate communications at the Japan Upjohn Company and the Pharmacia & Upjohn Company.

He will report to MS&L Japan managing director Eric Hess. The role will take effect from next month.
