M'sian publisher rolls into S'pore with The Edge

SINGAPORE: The Edge, a weekly business and investment newspaper from Malaysia, has launched a Singapore edition, boasting a print run of 50,000 copies.

Tan Boon Kean, managing director of The Edge Publishing, claimed the title was the only weekly business newspaper with Singapore and Malaysian news, and had no direct competitors.

Business, real estate, management, capital markets, technology and personal finance reports as well as a leisure and lifestyle section make up the bulk of its editorial content which is produced by a team of about 12 journalists in Singapore. The Edge also carries selected reports from The Edge Malaysia which are relevant to Singaporean readers, said Tan adding that, "our research shows Singaporeans want a local (Singapore) newspaper with coverage of Malaysia".

Circulation for the first issue included 30,000 copies mailed to customers from an undisclosed Singapore financial institution as part of larger direct marketing efforts to gain subscriptions.

The magazine is also available at newsstands with a cover price of S$3 (US$1.64). The publisher intends to have The Edge audited by Media Circulation Services (MCS) before year-end. Advertisers in the Singapore launch issue included OCBC Bank, DaimlerChrysler and Cartier.
