MPI opens Singapore office as it expands into Asia Pacific region

SINGAPORE Meeting Professionals International (MPI) has set-up its Asia Pacific office in Singapore as part of its regional expansion plan.

Although the organisation’s Asian membership is small, MPI wants to expand its relationships
in the region and explore ways to deliver its value propositions within the Asian meetings
and events industry.

MPI president and CEO Bruce MacMillan said: “Singapore’s regional hub position, long-term expertise in the meetings and events industry, and multicultural workforce provide the perfect
location for our new management structure.”

Michael Tay, director of operations, Asia-Pacific, heads the Singapore office, which is
MPI’s fourth after its global headquarters in the US, Toronto and Luxembourg.

MPI is planning to host its Professional Education Conference-Asia (PEC-Asia)in Singapore in 2008, which will introduce new concepts, educational delivery systems and marketplaces.
The new conference will focus on the Asian meetings and events industry, targeting
meeting professionals from around the world who conduct business within the region.

The association, which has more than 22,000 members worldwide, may also organise
two-day certification workshops based on its global series in early 2008.

MPI also hopes to become a resource for information on international destinations
by building out the capacity of its website www.mpiweb.org.

The new portals will provide a one-stop-shop for meeting professionals although the focus
of these destination reports has not been set.
