Chapman-Banks’ current role is vice-president, general manager of Asia-Pacific marketing for Motorola’s mobile devices arm. He will take up the post of corporate vice-president and general manager for Asia, overseeing the entire business function. That region covers all of Asia-Pacific (including India, Australia and New Zealand), with the exception of Greater China.
Chapman-Banks has been at Motorola since 2005, having previously worked at Apple, Microsoft and Xerox. In his time at the handset division he oversaw the expansion of the Moto Music content strategy in China.
Chapman-Banks will move from Hong Kong to Singapore to take up the role.
Motorola is in the process of spinning off its mobile handset division, which has underperformed compared with the rest of the company. Its global mobile sales in 2007 were down 33% compared with 2006.

HONG KONG - Motorola's mobile handset marketing chief, Ian Chapman-Banks (pictured), has been promoted to take charge of the entire mobile business in Asia outside of China.
