Mobile players launch social networking offering

SEOUL - Korea's SK Telecom and three Japanese mobile providers have launched a mobile networking service that allows subscribers to share information and user-generated content facilitated by a real-time language-translation feature.

Sky Buddy, provided by SK Telecom, NTT DoCoMo, KDDI and Softbank, will be available for mobile users in Korea and Japan, offering a platform onto which subscribers can upload content.

The translation function converts text from Japanese into Korean and vice versa to allow users in the two countries to communuicate.

According to the director of SK Telecom’s Culture and Life Business Office Su Hyuk Lee, the provider aims to “further expand the service to access the entire Asian market, including China.”
