Mindshare's Malaysia MD to relocate to India

KUALA LUMPUR - Chanchal Chakrabarti (pictured), managing director of Mindshare Malaysia, is relocating to India for personal reasons after working in the country for seven years.

Rahul Thappa, who joined Mindshare to work on the Unilever business, has taken on office leadership role for Mindshare Malaysia.

Ashutosh Srivastava, Asia-Pacific leader of Mindshare, confirmed the news and said that Chakrabarti will take over client leadership for PepsiCo in India, which is the agency’s largest engagement in the country.

“In the reorganisation, we are building a full-service team for Pepsi in line with their requirements, and Chanchal will lead this team. In addition, Chanchal also has specific responsibilities to help grow our operations in Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.”

Chakrabarti joined Mindshare Malaysia in 2001 and was made managing director when GroupM was established and Henry Tan became CEO for the group.

Rahul Thappa, who takes over, was part of the team that competed with OMD for Unilever business last year. According to Srivastava, Thappa “was groomed for succession by Henry and Chanchal, and has worked closely with Chanchal and Paul Corrigan, current CEO of GroupM Malaysia to step into his new role mid 2008.”
