MindShare secures Motorola

MindShare is tipped to consolidate its hold on the regional Motorola account, estimated at US$120 million, following a final shootout against Carat.

The win is thought to be part of a global victory for MindShare, after a multinational pitch that included all markets outside North America.

The media agency was thought to be finalising contractual details as Media went to press, though no official announcement had been made. Asia-Pacific was the setting for two separate pitches: one for North Asia and another for what Motorola terms high-growth markets, including Australia, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Africa.

MindShare is also thought to be negotiating Motorola media briefs in Europe and Latin America. Carat picked up Motorola's North American business last year.

A question mark is also hanging over Motorola's creative alignment in the region, although no formal review is taking place. The speculation follows reports that the US firm is about to switch agencies from Ogilvy & Mather to BBDO to help launch a new phone produced in collaboration with Apple.

The media pitch formalises the end of Universal McCann's relationship with Motorola in the region, which used to share the business with MindShare. Universal was initially in the running for the Asia-Pacific business alongside Starcom.
