Microsoft softening up hard-edged corporate image

ASIA-PACIFIC: Microsoft is giving its brand a human touch with the launch of its latest global advertising campaign which illustrates the company's mission of helping people and businesses realise their potential.

The campaign, which can be seen in Greater China, Japan, Australia, Korea and India, highlights the company's efforts to build programmes and partnerships with communities around the world.

It also features the new corporate tagline, 'Your potential. Our passion.'

According to Bridget Yau, spokesperson for Microsoft, the campaign was developed by McCann-Erickson and Microsoft's corporate advertising team.

"The campaign is designed to help key audiences understand what motivates everything Microsoft does as a company, from our product development to our work with customers and partners, to our engagement with communities," she said.

The print ads follow the company's US$1 billion global citizenship programme, 'Unlimited Potential', which aims to give people access to technology and training. "In Hong Kong, Microsoft has supported a wide range of projects to help underserved teens, seniors, the unemployed and those with disabilities.

"In this fiscal year, it invested nearly HK$2 million in cash and software in just the first two grant application cycles," said Yau.

Each ad features a photograph, overlaid with an illustration of the same scene showing the person or group achieving a goal.

In one execution, young children line up for a school activity. Drawn around each student is an illustration of what that student could become with the help of education and technology.

Other ads highlight small businesses, large enterprises and communities.

"This corporate image campaign is a global campaign but we have developed Asian related scenarios to be used in the Asian markets," added Yau.
