MICE Asia to build on 'positive show'

SINGAPOREAt the close of the second annual MICE Asia Executive Congress, held at Raffles The Plaza from July 2 to 4, organiser Naseba declared the results as "positive", but pledged to work on weaknesses "to produce an even better third edition".

Naseba CEO Scott Ragsdale said: "Normally, we have stricter cancellation policies on 'noshows'. However, to adapt to the Asian culture, we took this requirement out. In the end, we had 12 noshows." The programme included one-to-one business appointments, a conference and several social gatherings. While Hyatt Hotels & Resorts was upbeat about potential business, some others criticised the strong presence from India — requested by sellers in 2005. Naseba said that buyers applauded the "good networking opportunities" and more than 80 per cent of feedback forms stated the subsequent business potential. Sellers' feedback forms were 50 per cent positive, with a further 20 per cent preferring to "wait and see". A spokesperson from event partner East West Executive Travellers noted that participants "exhibited the increasing sophistication required of MICE activities".
