Metro HK's sales chief Lam beats 800 for top prize

STOCKHOLM: Metro Hong Kong's associate director of sales, Domina Lam, has been named the corporation's global sales person of the year, beating more than 800 people for the prize.

Lam took the top prize in a contest organised by Kinnevik Sphere, the holding company of the complimentary daily, as well as MTG Modern Times Group, Transcom Worldwide and Tele2. She won the award based on a number of criteria including outstanding effort and results, and exceptional and inspiring behaviour to customers, colleagues and management. Lam said that when she and commercial director Michael Denmark assumed their roles at Metro last year, "many people didn't think the daily would work because it was new and not part of the Hong Kong establishment of mass dailies".

However, she said that the message to advertisers was that Metro could consistently reach a working audience every day. "The vast majority of readers are on their way to work; they have disposable income, meaning that wastage is virtually eliminated."
