Mercedes taps Mao for China marketing

BEIJING - Former Ruder Finn Beijing SVP and general manager Mao Jingbo has joined Mercedes China as national head of marketing.

Mao, who garned significant experience on Audi and Li-Ning while at Ruder Finn, has been charged with overseeing the brand’s entire communications strategy. She will continue to be based in Beijing, and will report to Dr Claus Weidner, general manager, sales and marketing.

“Our challenge is to expand and rejuvinate the true Mercedes-Benz brand values, maintaining consistency with our global brand strategy but with China adaptations,” said Mao. “(My first jobs) will be to establish and build up a team with a diversified culture background and establish a qualified database of agencies which can provide strategic input and high-quality, practical implementations.”

Mao was replaced as general manager at Ruder Finn by Audi and Li-Ning account director Cyrus Qiao (Media, 9 August). Qiao has spent more than 10 years in public relations, focusing on public affairs in both the private and government sectors.
