MediaCorp adds to titles for Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR MediaCorp Publishing is doubling its Malaysian operations in the hope of finding high-growth opportunities outside of Singapore's increasingly saturated magazine market.

Style and Style Weddings, two fashion-focused 'magalogues', will join MediaCorp's current Malaysia offerings FHM and Mother & Baby. The glossies hit the stands in mid-February.

Published monthly, Style will combine fashion and lifestyle news with a catalogue-like photo montage of trends. "Style is the kind of magazine people keep for a while. It provokes a desire to own certain brands," said Lee Lee Mok, country manager of MediaCorporation Publishing, which opened in 2001.

While primarily targeting women, the magazine will feature regular supplements and a sliver of men's fashion news.

Meanwhile, bridal sister title Style Weddings will be published twice a year. Each bi-annual will be filled with advice and news targeting wedding couples. A themed event will follow the launch of each issue, which also links to a website filled with planning tools for hosting the perfect wedding. "Style Weddings is more of a reference guide," said Mok. "This is a very exciting time for us. Malaysia is a bigger market (than Singapore) and consumers are becoming more savvy and sophisticated. I think Style and Style Weddings come at just the right time."

Separately, the Singapore office recently launched Arena and a Chinese-language edition of Asian Diver. The department also executed a number of events this fall across its titles, such as an
8 Days celebrity flea market, FHM Girl Next Door competition and Lime Sonic Bang.
