Media: SkyCable launches new feeds

MANILA: SkyCable has added two new channels to its line-up, continuing an aggressive expansion in programming which started last year.

The two new channels introduced last month are ETC or Entertainment Central and Sports Plus. ETC shows a variety of top-rated, non-scripted programming 24 hours a day. The channel is targeted at adult male and female viewers aged between 21 to 45 years.

ETC programmes expected to become favorites are talk shows such as Late Night with Conan O'Brien and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, as well as news programmes such as Dateline NBC, Today and NBC Nightly News.

Sports Plus features golf, major league baseball, NBA, Euroleague, NFL, Nascar, Formula 1 racing and the Argentine Football League.

Last year, Beyond Cable - the holding group for Sky Vision, which offers the brand SkyCable and SunCable - added two new Chinese premium channels, Star Mandarin and Asia Plus, and a new channel lease, Tristate Christian Television to its offerings.

In addition, a carriage deal for a new channel featuring a completely different genre, Animax, was concluded in December.

Beyond Cable Holdings holds 70 per cent share of the market in Metro Manila.

Contributing to its continued dominance in the market was the reorganisation last year of the subscriber sales group, increase in subscriber acquisition programs, and improved customer service efficiencies. This led to a 54 per cent increase in gross new subscribers and a 59 per cent drop in disconnections.
