Media revenue up 20 per cent in China

BEIJING - China's total revenue from the radio, film and television industries reached Rmb 166 billion (US$24.3 billion) in 2008, a year-on-year increase of more than 20 per cent, according to a report published by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television.

The 2009 Radio, Film and Television Development Report found that total revenue from radio and television rose 19.5 per cent from the same time in 2008, to $19.7 billion. 

Advertising revenue from these two sectors hit $10.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of nearly 17 per cent, attributed to advertising surrounding the Olympic Games. 

Radio’s ad income alone increased by more than ten per cent, and television saw a rise of 17 per cent.

Meanwhile, film grossed $1.2 billion, 25 per cent more than the previous year.
