TOKYO: Japan-based mobile operator J-Phone and internet advertising
representative cyber communications have established an independent
mobile advertising company, J-Mobile Communications.
The company will handle mobile advertising solutions and services for
J-Phone's J-Sky, a mobile internet service with 6.1 million subscribers
in Japan.
J-Mobile will begin service in the third quarter of 2001.
The company will offer interactive advertising services, including media
planning and sales, creative design, consulting and advertising
distribution through J-Sky.
According to cyber communications' president, Toshio Arai, the company's
sales volume was more than Y7.1 billion (USdollars 56 million) in March
this year, accounting for about 30 per cent of the Japanese internet
advertising market.
The joint venture will be led by Yonosuke Nakagome, who has been
appointed president of J-Mobile. "The appeal of mobile advertising is
largely driven by individual operators' subscriber volume and
demographics. Through J-Mobile, the joint venture will be able to reach
a significant number of the 6.1 million unique subscribers throughout
Japan."
The group has also partnered with Hewlett-Packard Japan and JCB to
develop a mobile settlement system.
