Media: Comment - Small victory at first but ad boycotts only work for a short time
Lounging around my Manila office one afternoon in early 1999 a phone call was put through from an official concerning some ads we were placing in the Philippine Inquirer. President Estrada was engaged in a battle with the paper, as it had an annoying habit of pointing out corruption in his administration and family. This official suggested, as a foreigner, I didn't understand the "politics" of the Philippines. Fortunately I worked for some very decent folks, who told me first off not to worry, and most importantly don't pull any ads.
