MEDIA CHOICE: Shenzhen Airlines Inflight Magazine

Most people read inflight magazines to kill time, because flying is indeed a very boring thing. Readers normally see a lot of travel features, in which the airlines sell their flights; lifestyle features that trigger people to spend more money; and a lot of designer label and duty free ads, of course.

Shenzhen Airlines' inflight magazine is very different from the regular inflight publication you see on most airlines. It is more like a business magazine, with a small dose of lifestyle features.

You will find business news clips at the beginning of the magazine, followed by a few stories under the topic of 'Business Circle'. Although their stories on luxury housing can look like advertorials, they also manage to add in an angle in the property market development.

All said, the magazine also carries features on travel and shopping, but these are slotted in at almost the end of the publication, which make them look like supplements rather than major features, as in most other inflight publications.

Its editorial focus may reflect Shenzhen Airlines' passenger profile, which will probably be more male-skewed, domestic business travelers.

It actually feeds you more information than you expect from an inflight magazines, and some people may even find its tone a bit too serious for lighthearted leisure inflight reading.
