MECC expands executive sales team

MELBOURNE The Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre (MECC) has expanded its executive team to maximise the potential of its new 5,000-seat convention centre, due to open in 2009.

MECC chief executive Leigh Harry said: "This is an exciting period for Melbourne, particularly as construction on the new convention centre is about to begin and it is timely to expand our team." He added: "We must ensure the new convention centre is a world leader, achieving a larger slice of national and international business. "We are focusing on areas of new business for the 5,000-seat plenary hall and its facilities." Petrina Gillespie will take on the director of marketing role, responsible for development, direction, implementation and co-ordination of marketing programmes. Melissa MacCourt has been appointed director of sales, while Clive Dwyer has been appointed director of business development.
