MEC wins Michelin media planning account

TOKYO - Michelin has handed its Japan media planning account to MEC following a competitive pitch believed to have included two other MNC agencies.

While Michelin is an MEC client in Europe and other Asian markets, the tyre company tends to pitch on a market-by-market basis. Michelin has only worked with agencies on a project basis in Japan. Nielsen puts spend at US$1.9 million, a figure expected to increase given Michelin’s planned expansion in the country.

The win comes during a period of growth and restructuring at MEC. Peter Vogel, previous CEO of MEC Group  South Africa, has moved to Singapore to take up the newly created role of chief strategy officer for MEC Asia-Pacific.

MEC Singapore is also undergoing a restructuring process aimed at greater integration, following the departure of previous MD Yew Nee Lim. Connie Chan (pictured), the previous MD of client services proposition Global Solutions becomes MD of the Singapore office. Sharon Soh, who was previously GM of the local Singapore office, has been promoted to strategy director.

MEC veteran Michelle Wong has been promoted to GM, while Ang Wan Gyn and Joan Han at Global Solutions have been promoted to group account directors, with Guillaume Conteville from MEC London joining as regional director.
