MCOT is partially owned by the government and has in the last few years seen changed presidents a number of times under political pressure.
In a report published in MCOT's portal, Surapon Nitikraipoj, chairman of MCOT's board of directors, said the board's members resolved unanimously to choose Tanawat because he had proper qualifications and international work experience.
The reports states that the board will evaluate Tanawat‚s one-year performance before his four-year tenure is confirmed.
"The board decided to choose the president based on his professional. We believe he will be able to steer MCOT in his four-year employment term."
It is believed that Wansom's first mission will be to carry internal restructure at MCOT.
