McDonald's aims to unveil McKids in Korea, Taiwan

McDonald's has confirmed that it will expand its McKids children's clothing offering, launching new stores in Korea and Taiwan later this year.

The range, which is currently offered in over 12 department stores in China, will also hit Hong Kong in early 2005. "Plans are to introduce McKids in Korea and Taiwan in fall this year, and Hong Kong in spring next year," said Marina Leung, director of corporate communications at McDonald's China Development Corporation (CDC). The McKids branded clothing line is currently available in the Chinese cities of Xiamen and Shanghai, after McDonald's announced a licensing deal with local apparel firm Shanghai Longtrust Trade. Shanghai Longtrust handles the design, manufacture, distribution and promotion of clothing, accessories and footwear in China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and South Korea. McDonald's first introduced the McKids line in 1987 and has expanded it to cover footwear, toys, games, videos, music, books and other products. Marketing for McKids products is currently handled by ES Sutton and Group 3 Design out of the US. The fastfood retailer currently operates 580 outlets in China, and plans to double this number by the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
