McCann retreats from Golden deal in Vietnam

HO CHI MINH CITY - McCann WorldGroup has retreated from a planned equity deal with local agency Golden Communications.

Client conflict and staff issues are believed to have played a role in making the deal unworkable.

However, the IPG agency remains closely aligned to Golden through a strategic alliance with media sibling, Universal McCann. "Vietnam remains a high priority for McCann," said Mark Ingrouille, McCann's Southeast Asia area director. "We already have an excellent representation through our joint relationship with Lowe, but are always on the look-out for expansion opportunities."

Golden Communications is one Vietnam's largest independent full service agencies and has been in merger discussions with a number of multinational networks.
