Mistry moves to a new role, Asia-Pacific growth officer, with a brief to grow McCann’s footprint and service offering.
Before that, however, Mistry will oversee an overhaul of McCann’s troubled Jakarta office, which is encountering legal difficulties given a recent clampdown on multinational agencies (Media, 9 August), and agency head Jan Gerits leaving the agency.
Meanwhile, regional CD for South and Southeast Asia Prasoon Joshi has replaced McCann Worldgroup regional ECD Jeremy Perrott, who recently shifted to the role of global ECD, McCann Healthcare. However, the regional Worldgroup ECD role has been shelved; Joshi’s remit will focus more on McCann Erickson than Worldgroup’s non-traditional disciplines.
Joshi also takes on new duties as area director for India, which has been moved out of the Southeast Asia reporting line and recognised as a region in its own right.
Kevin Ramsey, Asia-Pacific CEO of McCann, said of the changes: “All too often in the past, we (McCann) have been misunderstood and labelled a ‘traditional’ agency. The reality is we are a diverse, powerful, exciting, multifaceted network filled with real talent. We want to be the biggest, best and most admired network in the region. To achieve this, growth is our imperative.”
Other changes see Harry Corsham, who runs the Microsoft business, promoted to Asia Pacific director of multinational clients while Mark Cripps, MRM’s Greater China strategic planning director, becomes regional digital director. In addition, McCann’s Malaysia office has been singled out as an ‘ideas hub’, and will take on extra strategic responsibility for regional clients.
Also, McCann Malaysia’s chief strategy officer and deputy MD Pratik Thakar is moving to China to take on an equivalent role as chief planning officer and EVP, McCann Worldgroup China.
