The appointment of Wong, a winner of Hong Kong's highest creative award, the Kam Fan in 2004, as well as two silvers at Cannes, ends a three-month talent search by McCann, which also tied up with award-winning creative Jureeporn Thaidumrong in Thailand last month (Media, March 24). "Spencer's pending arrival to McCann Hong Kong accelerates our creative momentum," said McCann World- group regional director for Asia-Pacific, Eric Einhorn.
Wong, most recently regional CD working on Colgate for Y&R, will spend most of his time overseeing McCann's 50-strong creative team in Hong Kong alongside MD Rosanna Yu. He has also been given a brief to recruit new creative leaders for McCann's mainland operationss working with McCann China MD Don Norris.
The agency is planning to shift Jerry Kan, appointed to a dual ECD role overseeing Shanghai and Taiwan last year, back to Taiwan to focus on operations there, creating a new vacancy in Shanghai. McCann's global Intel win and other new assignments have prompted the need for an additional senior creative to manage the team in Beijing.
Y&R, meanwhile, has moved regional ECD Tan Shen Guan to Hong Kong, where he will replace Wong as creative head on Colgate-Palmolive as part of his regional brief. Y&R has 16 creatives working on Colgate-Palmolive in Hong Kong, as well as staff assigned to the account in Thailand and the Philippines.
