McCann HealthCare China retains Omron account

SHANGHAI - McCann HealthCare China and its sister media partner Universal McCann have retained the account for Japanese digital healthcare monitoring company Omron, after a pitch which is believed to have included Euro RSCG, Dentsu, Hakuhodo and a local agency.

McCann has been appointed to develop a Chinese New Year campaign and to the brand's  above-the-line communication work for the next three years.

David Shen, MD of McCann HealthCare China, said: “One of the key reasons we won the account, we believe, is our special and professional understanding of the consumer healthcare and wellness sector."

Omron's key products are digital meter devices for monitoring blood pressure, glucose and body fat. The brand is the market leader in its sector in the China market. It's competitors include Panasonic, Johnson & Johnson and Roche.

The McCann and Universal McCann duo have worked on the account for the past three years. Omron now aims to create a higher demand for its products in China among its key target consumers, who consist of the middle-aged and care-givers.

Omron's main advertising media in the past have been TV and OOH. The first new campaign is set to launch before Chinese New Year 2010.
