M&C lands $40m Woolworths deal against 26 rivals

SYDNEY: In what is the biggest account move in Australia this year, supermarket retailer Woolworths has picked M&C Saatchi Sydney to handle its estimated $75 million (US$40 million) advertising account after a seven-month review which saw 27 agencies tender for the business.

The move ends a 16-year relationship with Leo Burnett Sydney, which created the 'Fresh food people' slogan Woolworth's CEO, Roger Corbett, said: "M&C Saatchi provided a compelling proposal to partner with us to pursue further growth for our brand.

The agency shortlist included Singleton Ogilvy & Mather, Clemenger Harvie Edge, Oddfellows and Burnett. Mitchell Media will manage media buying.
