M&C expands Hong Kong creative team

HONG KONG - M&C Saatchi is planning to increase its focus on business development, with the network investing heavily in establishing a new-look creative department.

Led by recently-appointed co-executive CDs Simon Handford and Sandy Chan (Media, 19 April), M&C has lured nine new creatives into full-time positions, marking a significant shift from its previous project-based operations.

Leading the appointments is Francis Chung, formerly Leo Burnett Hong Kong creative director, who has come on board as CD. He has worked on One2Free and Calbee among others, and has landed metal at shows such as New York Festivals, the HK4As and LongXi.

Chung is joined by former DDB interactive art director Percy Kwan, who has been named interactive creative head, along with Ogilvy senior copywriter, Wen Hsiu Louie, who has been hired as associate CD. Ben Yeung, previously art director with Ogilvy & Mather, has been named senior art director.

The four head up a further five additions to the creative team. “The nature of some of the business M&C had been involved in the past was more project-based as opposed to longer-term clients,” said Handford.
“The departure of M&C Saatchi’s previous ECD, Iris Lo, created a vacuum, so there was an opportunity for Sandy and I to start from scratch with a clean sheet.”
