Mazda selects Phelps as China spokesperson

BEIJING - Mazda has signed Michael Phelps as its brand spokesperson in China, in a deal that will see the US Olympian endorse the new Mazda6 marque across a range of media.

The ensuing campaign work will be developed in conjunction with D3, a division of Beijing-based agency DMG (Dynamic Marketing Group), the deal between Mazda and Phelps having been facilitated by DMG Entertainment.

In a statement, DMG noted that the carmaker viewed Phelps as an icon who resonated with its core values and was a hero to the Chinese public.

Initial work featuring the gold medal-winning swimmer is expected to roll out across Greater China in the first half of the year.
