This was the first time that Mapfre had visited Thailand. Even so, they felt that local Thai tourist cultural productions did not suit the type of performance and entertainment they were looking for their event.
IMPACT proposed to fly in an international production from China and recommended the
famous ‘My Dream’ production from the China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe for an
exclusive performance at the Mapfre event.
Challenges
One of the challenges included communicating in English with the Chinese (a foreign language
for both sides) on their requirements such as stage, sound and lighting equipment.
There were also logistical challenges in catering to the special needs of 54 disabled performers when they arrived in Bangkok, such as transportation, disability-friendly hotel accommodation and meals.
Execution
The evening’s programme began as planned with speeches and an awards presentation ceremony
followed by a four-course Western dinner in the Royal Jubilee Ballroom.
The evening’s final programme, the “My Dream” production opened with the breathtaking act ‘Avlokitsevara Bodhisattva’ depicting the thousand hands of the Buddha performed by 21 hearingimpaired performers.
Verdict
The event was a success. The ‘My Dream’ production drew standing ovations from the audience and moved many, including the president of Mapre, Jose Manuel Martinez.
He went on stage to thank the performers saying: “This has certainly been one of the most
inspiring performances we all have seen.
“I would like to thank you for enlightening all of us with your messages of beauty and humanity.”
