Langkawi, larger than Penang but with just one fifth of the population, is a mixture of
rainforest-covered mountains, mangrove swamps, fertile plains and pristine beaches.
The island houses the Mahsuri Conference and Exhibition Centre, conveniently situated
next to the international airport.
THE BEST HOTELS
Langkawi also has a range of luxury resort hotels. Among the most exclusive is the
newly opened Westin Langkawi. Facing 500 metres of private beach, the resort has
202 guestrooms. Event planners have the choice of seven conference and banqueting
suites, as well as the grand ballroom that can host receptions for up to 400 guests. The Four
Seasons Resort Langkawi opened in 2005 and is a development of 91 luxurious pavilions
and villas inspired by Malay and Mughal architecture, and aimed at the top tier of the market. Function rooms overlook the Andaman Sea. The Congkak room fits up to 120 people and the Veranda can accommodate up to 200 for a reception.
The Langkawi Sheraton Beach Resort, beautifully constructed with Malaysian timber, recently completed renovating its 182 rooms. The grand ballroom can hold conventions for 440 delegates.
LANGKAWI INCENTIVES
Langkawi is one of 100 islands. It is possible to charter boats to take 100 or more people
from the main town of Kaun to go island hopping as well as kayaking, swimming or enjoying a barbecue on a deserted island. The fascinating mangrove tour reveals Langkawi’s plant and animal treasures. The Langkawi Cable Car on Machinchang Mountain (www.langkawicablecar.com.my) is great for dinners and spectacular views.
