The format change, effective 6 July, is a reflection of changing consumer habits where younger audiences prefer portable products, said the company, which will also generate more space for advertisements because of a rise in pagination.
A statement from the broadsheet revealed that the move was in response to requests from advertisers to increase pagination because Berita Harian has very limited right-hand front-half positions.
It added: By going compact, Berita Harian will be able to increase its right-hand front-half positions from five to fifteen. This would be adequate for advertisers seeking the preferred positions to display their advertisements in Berita Harian.
